The youths of Ikpoba-Okha local government has passionately appeal to a renowned Catholic Preacher and Parish Priest, St. Francis Catholic Church, Benin City, Rev. Fr. Andrew Obiyan to vie for the forthcoming Edo 2024 Governorship election.
This appeal was made yesterday during a novelty match organized by the youths in honour of Fr. Obiyan at St Maria Gorretti Secondary School compound in Benin City.
The youths who came out in their numbers were in emotional mood while making the call. They said having critically study the political terrain in Edo State and also seeing the persons that have come out to indicate interest to contest for the Governorship election , they have come to a conclusion that the only person who can meet their aspiration at this critical time is Rev. Fr. Andrew Obiyan.
They described him as a known humanitarian person who has touched so many lives in Edo State and beyond.
The youth leader, Mr. Ogbeide Esosa who spoke on behalf of the youths appealed to well meaning Edo people to rally round Rev. Fr. Obiyan to be elected as the governor of Edo State come 2024 Governorship election irrespective of political divides "The youths you are seeing here today cut across all political parties in the state. We have heard about the humanitarian works you are doing in our dear state sir, helping the widows, youths and the need in the society".
He further said that people should not be surprised seeing Fr. Obiyan in their mist, as
he was specifically invited to be honoured with the novelty football match that attracted many people to watch .
They thanked Fr. Obiyan for honouring their invitation.
The youths further repeatedly urged Fr. Obiyan to join the race so to paint Edo State with white and gold which will eventually turn into progress and prosperity for the people of Edo State.
Another prominent youth in the area Osarobo Omoruyi said they will continue to put pressure on Fr. Obiyan until he heed to their call to join the Governorship race .
He added that since he is eminently qualified the youths will commit their time to mobilize and work for him during the election.
In his response, Rev. Fr. Andrew Obiyan who was elated by the show of love by the mammoth crowds comprises of both young men and women said he was not surprised for the love they displayed towards him, adding that looking at history, the youths in that area are always known for standing for what is right and just. He promised to look into their request and get back to them at the appropriate time.
He also said that the youths have never compromised in any issue, because they believe in the idea for the upliftment of the society and what will bring light to the people.
"Thank you very much for this honour. We want Edo State to be a shinning light in Nigeria. Where the youths will be gainfully employed and be happy. I stand solidly for what you stands for".
