Edo Town Planners' Chairman calls for collaboration to avoid building collapse

 The Chairman, Nigerian Institute of Town Planners,(,TPL) Edo State Chapter, Mr Inanigie Abudu Udukhomho has called on other professional bodies in land development to work together to avoid frequent building collapse.

Inanigie a former Director, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Regional Development made this appeal when he took over from his predecesor at their Secretariat today in Benin City. 

He said as the new chairman of the body, he will ensure there is public enlinghtment, advocacy  and community meetings in local governments to educate people on the need to partner with physical planning and Urban Development, adding that the publicity in this cause will be taken to a very high level to achieve success.

"People acquiring land should ensure the land is genuine by meeting the community heads for confirmation. Because these are the documents you will use to process building plan approval and other development plans", he said.

He further said that some development layouts  and estates do not have imputs from the town planning office and as result were not registered by the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development. 

He added that there was need for proper coordination of all projects to ensure they follow the standard as stipulated by regulating professional documents.

His predecessor,  Dr. Hope Iyawe had earlier handover the mantle of leadership to the new chairman and wish him well on his new assignment 

On his part, one of their member, Joshua Akin Olorunfemi advice the new chairman to try and bring in new members who are qualified to the body in order to add their professional value.

Orther executive members are Vice Chairman, TPL Dr. Adegboyega Collins, Secretary, TPL Okao Lucky, Treasurer, TPL, Ugiagbe Kelly, Financial Secretary, TPL Akhigbe Kingsley, Public Relations  Secretary, TPL Eshiemokhai Bernard and Auditor, TPL Osagiede George.
