We are determined to keep Edo Waterways safe, says ESN Coordinator....Call on Govt. to call Robert Okubo to order on criminal activity in Inikorogha Community

By Ehichioya Steve Odion

The Chairman/ Coordinator, Edo State Security Network on Waterways, Hon. Pere Ejune has promised to make the Waterways safe for businesses to strive in the riverine communities. This was disclosed to the Weekend Groove Watch Magazine yesterday in Benin City.

"We are fighting crime because we need development in our area. We cover Udo-Ofunama Road, one of the major forest where kidnapping, illegal logging and bunkering activities are taking place. In the cause of our duty my team were able to arrest some kidnappers with AK 49 and we handed them over to the Edo State Police Command. We also arrested oil bunkers and illegal loggers that were handed over to Iguobazuwa police station and Conservator at Okomu National Park Reserve respectively".
He alleged that all the arrested persons confessed that they were boys of one Robert Okubo, adding that he quickly called him to draw his attention to the issue and equally asked him why he was trying to sabotage the present government's effort to sanitize the area of criminal activities. "I told him he was in Comrade Adams Oshiomhole Government for 8 years and also worked with Governor Godwin Obaseki in his first tenure that no one disturbed him. Why are you now sabotaging our effort, Ejune asked.

He also alleged that one Felix Gbale was shot on 7th of April, 2021, by Robert Okubo that is yet to recover from the injury

Ejune however, regretted that the same Robert Okubo went to Abuja and brought Intelligence Response Team (ITM) to arrest him and took him to Abuja simply because he was preventing  them from carrying out their nefarous activities at Udo-Ofunama axis. He said Robert Okubo's plan was to send him out of his duty post, adding that he was happy to be back to his duty as he is ever determined to continue to fight crime activities in the area assigned to them in order to bring development to the area.

He said recently when Inikorogha and Obazuwa communities were having comunual dispute, that Robert Okubo called him to mobilize his officers to Inikorogha community to fight Obazuwa Community. He said he quickly directed his director of operations, Godstime Ogidigba to inform him that Edo State Security Network was not met to fight tribal war, adding that the ijaws and the Binis are one.

Ejune said he was using this opportunity to tell the state government that he was not the person that asked the security agents to arrest Robert Okubo, as he(Ejune) heard of it as other did, and advised him to honour the security's  invitation to clear himself.
On his part, the Head of Operations, Edo State Security Network on Waterways Hon. Godstime Ogidigba said one publication credited to Robert Okunbo which was singed by Robert Ogidigba and Christopher Imafidon on behalf of Elders Council of Inikorogha Community accusing them is null and void, as there is no such name in Inikorogha community, adding that no such mandate was given to them either to act in that capacity.

"Robert Okubo has been invited  severally by the DSS, Commissioner of Police and other security agents. But he has refused to honour any of these invitations. I advised he  makes himself available to the security agents to clear himself, instead of going into hiding".

The oldest man in Inikorogha Community, High Chief Joseph Megbuwei who is now the Amakusuwei of the community according to ijaw tradition, said he takes charge of the day to day running of the affairs of the community, including revenue generation and maintaining of law and order in a chat with the Groove Watch Magazine.

"But since I assumed this position 3 years ago, Robert Okubo has refused to recognized me as AMAKOSUWEI of Inikorogha Community. He does not allow me to play my role or get my entitlements. He appoints illegal committee to act for him in the sales of community properties and all negotiations with companies in the community".

He alleged that Robert Okubo recently sold African Timber and Plywood crain for milions of naira without his knowledge and the community. He however said luck ran out of those who bought the crain as they were arrested with his boys along Ekenwan Road, Benin City.

"My heart bleeds every day seeing what Robert Okubo and his criminal gangs has turned my community to. I'm using this medium to appeal to President Buhari, Governor Godwin Obaseki, IGP, Commissioner of Police, Chief of Army Staff and other security agencies to come to the rescue of the people of Inikorogha Community who are now under serious bondage and slavery in the hands of Robert Okubo".
