Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, (PMAN), Edo State Chapter in conjunction with Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria (MCSN) has put all the necessary arrangements in place to ensure all musicians and DJs in the state are registered with licence to perform anywhere in the worldl.
This was made known to the Groove Watch Magazine by the Governor of PMAN, Edo State Chapter, Willy Eghe Nova in a stakeholders meeting held by the association yesterday in Benin City.
He said the meeting was to solidify their relationship with the Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria (MCSN) and to also sensitize the members on the need to obey the rules and laws as ensthrine in their Constitution. He further said that members who registered with MCSN will get their reward for their works.
"Also to let the members know that it is important to have a regulated instrument. That is why we are introducing job licence in order to flush out non registered musicians from the music industry. We want to be able to regulate the industry. The licence we introduced today were given to our pioneer leaders, which includes Ambassador Osayomore Joseph, Akaba Man and PMAN Deputy Governor, Mrs. Palmer Omoruyi".
PMAN Governor said their plan is to make the association attractive to up coming musicians and creative youths, adding that they will equally provide alot of opportunities for them in the entertainment industry.
"PMAN as a trade Union has a responsibility to regulate the industry in such a way that all those that are creative can come here and get the reward. We are also appealing to the public to always find out if the musicians they want to engage in any social event are satisfied by the association with licence to perform. The association cannot defend those who are not part of us in case there is problem during the period of engaging them".
He said new members must have two surety from the old members before the association can register such member. He said he was happy for the turn out of members across Edo state.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of PMAN, Comrade Courage Asia who was in attendance said members were advised to always dress decently as musicians before going to any occasion.
"The way you present yourself as an artist will make people to respect you among others. If any DJ wants to join us they must collect licence before playing people's music, because the music does not belong to them".
