Residents of Upper Sakpoba Road, Benin City are yet to come to terms with the gruesome murder of Pa Osagie Aimufua during the invasion of house number 29, Nomayo Street, Benin City by armed hoodlums suspected to be hired assassins on June 8, 2016.
The attack which also led to the destruction of the Aimufua family home was allegedly orchestrated by vengeful and dare devil gang of illegal children adoption syndicate over an adoption deal that went wrong.
Mrs Mary Lawrence Aimufua, a nursing officer in a clinic in Benin is said to be at the centre of the controversy that resulted in the killing of her father inlaw Pa Osagie Aimufua.
Residents said this tragic attack was the second in a series suffered by the Aimufua family as armed hoodlums suspected to be cultists had first invaded the house and clubbed Mrs Mary Lawrence Aimufua and her husband Lawrence Aimufua to stupor, leaving both for dead before disappearing from the scene.
The residents claimed that the children adoption syndicate exposed by Mary which led to the arrest of some of its powerful and influential members by the police, may have been responsible for the latest invasion.
Some of them who didn't want their names mentioned, revealed that some unknown persons had threatened to deal with Mary Aimufua before the first attack.
Mary was said to have been approached by the syndicate at a local hospital where she worked to facilitate the theft of some new born babies for sale. She was said to have informed the police leading to their arrest.
They claimed that some corrupt police officers may have been bribed to reveal the identity of their informants leading to the attempts on the lives of Lawrence Aimufua and his wife Mary.
They believe that the attackers decided to kill Pa Osagie Aimufua when they could not get at Lawrence and his wife Mary who have since gone into hiding.
The police said they have launched a manhunt for the killers of Pa Osagie Aimufua, assuring that his killers will be unmasked.
Police spokesperson Abiodun Osifo, ASP, advised that Lawrence and his wife Mary whose whereabouts are currently unknown to stay off public glare to prevent further attacks while investigations continue.
