EDO 2024: Group Backs Okoukoni On Governorship Ambition

It was a boost for Mr. Martins Azekhumen Okoukoni's political ambition yesterday as  group known as Esan Akugbe --Ahu Social Club of Benin backed his 2024 governorship race in Benin City.

According to the chairman of the Club, Simon Ebimiebhor,   "we are here to fomerlly show our support and endorsement for our son Martins Okoukoni for his aspiration for the office of the Governor of Edo State". 

He said if Esan people are united they will achieve a common goal, adding that they were very happy as a group as Okoukoni choose to contest the governorship position in Edo state. He further said that having know the antecedents of Martins Okoukoni as someone who is after the welfare of Edo people, that the only thing to do is to give him all the needed support to enable him succeed in his governorship ambition.

The group which took time to speak one by one said seeing what Martins Okoukoni has been doing for the people with his hard earn money without the support of the government, therefore there is no doubt that if given the opportunity to serve the people of Edo State he will do more better.

The group also called on the people of Edo State in respective of political divide to settle for this young and dynamic youth who has interest in transforming the economy of the state for the betterment of the people.

Another thing that gave the event a colourful outing was the presence of Benin group, Arewa group and Edo North group who came out in their numbers to join the Club to give solidarity and their unalloyed support to the aspiration of Martins Okoukoni in becoming the next governor of Edo State come next year.

The three groups said they came to support the Esan group to fornally welcomed their son and to also beg him to save  the people from this present suffering in the state, especially in the areas of roads so that the people can  heave a sigh of relief if he enventually become the governor of Edo State. "As we see him we believe strongly that the young man will go very far to achieve all he want to achieve to give succur to all the needy in the state.

In his response, the governorship hopeful on the platform of the Labour Party, LP, Mr. Martins Azekhumen Okoukoni who was excited with the show of love by the people through the reception given to him at the event said he is motivated and encouraged to go ahead with the governirship project.

According to him, "I have always has that love for Esan to preserved their culture and i also like to support an Esan cause. I like the progress of Esan in all areas"

Okoukoni disclosed that he has a very strong manifesto which he will implement to change the futune of the people of Edo State when he assume office as governor, adding that the political leaders in the country have failed its citizens. He further said that they took all the resources of the country to abroad for the white people to be enjoying over there, including the crude oil.

He said the reason he is contesting is to bring his wealth of experience in abroad to bear in the governance of Edo State so that the state can progress for the people to enjoy the dividends of democracy.

Okoukoni also talked about the Okoukoni Care Foundation which he establised 6 years ago to support Edo students who are unable to  pay for WAEC/NECO enrolment fees. He said the disbursement of funds he did last Saturday marked the third phase of the programme, adding that what he is presently doing will no doubt discouraged people from fustration, stealing and being negleted in the society.

The governorship hopeful said if elected he will make sure that social welfare, such as health care, basic education and special care for pregnant women for their safe delivery are put in place.

Okoukoni meeting with Esan Akugb- Ahu Social Club is part of his ongoing consultations with stakeholders in the state.

Highlight of the event was the special prayers for Martins Azekhumen Okoukoni by the Esan Akugbe -- Ahu Social Club of Benin members on his governorship ambition.
