Oredo local government area being a metropolitan city populated by both indigenous and non indigenous people requires a chairman who understands the socio-cultural and political nuances that shape electoral contests in the area.
In addition, anyone aspiring as candidate for the post of chairman of the council needs to be subjected to public scrutiny in order to elect a leader who can perform optimally while in office.
As a result of this, the man of the moment in whom majority of the people in the local government is projecting and incidentally the foremost contestant in the race, Hon. Johnson Elema of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has proven himself most fitting for the job.
Part of his outstanding credentials is his ability to research on governance principles and practices to ascertain the best way to successfully govern the vast local government area with 12 political wards and a politically enlightened people.
There is no doubt that various amenities are going to be located in all the wards through the implementation of a proper budgeting system that accommodates the needs of the to interest within the Oredo geographical space.
The interests of the people in the hard to reach areas of the council which include building of physical infrastructure like rural roads, health and education facilities will be met with existing ones upgraded to standard that effectively meets the needs of the people when he gets elected as chairman of the council.
Therefore, to achieve this enormous task, he has decided that there is a need to have regular Town Hall meetings with all the stakeholders in each of the wards to ascertain their priorities.
He believes that gone are the days when projects were allocated arbitrarily without considering the inputs of the people that will make use of them.
So, it takes a genuine heart and total commitment of someone who wants to serve at the level of local government chairman to thread this honourable path to towards achieving success while in office. Unlike some inexperienced individuals who may just want to jump into the contest of becoming chairman of a complex local government council like Oredo. Since there is more to this kind of project, it therefore requires the projection of a very hard working,
committed person who knows the terrain of the local government very well, and that person is no other than the political giant, Johnson Elema.
In order for the Oredo voters to get it right this time around, there is a need to look beyond partisan politics and give this man of the people, a chance to actualize his dream to become the next chairman of the council in order to actualize his mission and vision for the people. Looking at him as a person, you will know that he has the passion to serve his people who are presently yearning for good governance.
I have heard him at different fora saying that the people of Oredo deserve the best which in turn he wants to give to them through purposeful and accountable leadership. He needs encouragement and other support from all well meaning individuals in the local government to succeed in this task as everyone stands to benefit from the project.
This comes with a realization that only him cannot achieve success in this endeavor without the support of others. He has therefore resolved to work with like minded people who will be sincere enough to help him deliver on all his electoral promises to the people.
The time is thus ripe for the chairmanship hopeful to begin to actively involve these individuals in the confidence building processes ahead of the party primary election. Additionally, they need to start working with him so that it will not be difficult to hit the ground running when he gets elected.
Because it is only when they join hands together now that the journey towards success in the coming election will be easy.
The reason the people of Oredo is rooting for him is not far fetched. The manner and ways he presented himself to them during his electioneering campaign in his first attempt in 2023 was electrifying. That experience gave him the rare opportunity to be on a familiar tough in the cause of his meeting with party leaders, members and stakeholders in the local government ahead of the primary and the build up to the main election.
His efforts in the consultations so far shows that he is prepared for the position to lead the council. The only thing he needs now is unquatified support to enable him get the nomination and subsequently win the election.
