Ambassador (Princess) Asha Okojie-Odigie, the foremost aspirant and first female Labour Party (LP) governorship aspirant from Esan land, as well as the CEO of AfriQtalk Consult and Vice President of the Ivorian-Nigerian Bilateral Chambers of Commerce and Industry who showcases extensive array of philanthropic endeavors that underscore her unwavering commitment to diverse social causes will be honoured by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State Council with an Award of Excellence this week in Benin City.
Her initiatives span from raising awareness about sickle cell, empowering women, actively participating in voting sensitization and monitoring elections, supporting the education of young girls, providing care for pregnant women, leading rescue missions for young Nigerian girls from human trafficking, organizing blood donation drives, covering medical expenses for adults with underlying health conditions, to extending stipends to orphanages, covering a broad spectrum of social needs.
In addition to her philanthropy, Ambassador Okojie-Odigie assumes crucial roles as a culture promoter, advocate against gender inequality, and she is a veteran media personality.
Her influence extends to the diaspora, where she played a pioneering role in promoting the Nigerian entertainment industry in the U.S. fifteen years ago, contributing significantly to the awareness of African music.
Recognized as one of the emerging African diaspora female leaders, she has garnered local and international recognitions both in the media, and entertainment industries, including trade, and investment sector in the United States and Africa.
Actively contributing to promoting democracy and good governance, she engages in legislative exchange summits with U.S. agencies, governments, organizations, institutions, and business communities to foster mutually benefitting policies and relationships, while participating in fact-finding missions for socio-economic development.
Ambassador Okojie-Odigie's versatile role as a philanthropist and advocate against human trafficking, female genital mutilation (FGM), gender inequality, and the repatriation of stolen artifacts from Africa have not only created awareness but has also catalyzed policies for positive societal change.
According to the selection committee, her philanthropic endeavors align with the core values that the NUJ sought in the various awardees, positively impacting human development and society.
The recognition not only recognize her exceptional contributions to humanity, but also underscores the exemplary roles and positive examples she has set for the people of Edo.
The Nigerian Union of Journalists selection process, focusing on her notable antecedents and shining examples within the Edo community, further emphasizes the significance of Ambassador Okojie-Odigie's philanthropic gestures.
As a UN Ambassador, her efforts have significantly contributed to uplifting mankind, earning her the special recognition being among the five prominent Edo personalities for the honor during the Edo NUJ Press Week on the 9th of December, 2023
