Fr. Obinyan To Celebrate 25th Years Priestly Ordination, promises To Continue With Humanitarian Work

The Parish Priest, St. Francis Catholic Church, Benin City, Rev. Fr. Andrew Obinyan has expressed readiness to continue with his humanitarian work in touching the lives of the widows and other needy in society.

He made this known to The Groove Watch News during the weekend while flagging off a football competition as part of the activities to mark the celebration of his 25th years Priestly Ordination anniversary slated for this month in Benin City.

Fr. Obinyan said that the church also.believes in Corporate Social Responsibility to the host community, adding that is the reason he decided to sponsor the football competition where the youths in the community can actively participate, and to boost the discovery of talents. He also encouraged other youths to be part of the competition by coming to watch the matches.

He said, "It is also an opportunity for me as a  Priest to pray for the people in this community. We cannot have a church around here and we are unable to build families. We want God to bless this family we are forming today. This can make us to build a big family thereafter".


Fr. Obinyan promised to bring in doctors and nurses to carry out free  medical services between 16th to 19th of October, 2023.

On his part, the coordinator of the football competition, Airende Sunny commended Fr. Obinyan for engaging the youths with the football tournament, adding that the competition will certainly bring out the best in the players. He further said that the final of the match will be played on 20th of October, 2023.

The teams involve in the football competition include, St. Francis, Marakana, Adolor, Uzebu, Ezomo, dynamic, Ogbe and Bright Star.

The opening match between St. Francis and Marakana ended 3-0 in favour of Marakana. However, the two teams gave good account of themselves to the admiration of the fans.
