No Increment Of School Fees, AAU Ekpoma Management Insists

By Ehichioya Steve Odion

The management of the Ambrose Alli University, AAU, Ekpoma, has insisted that the institution has not increased the tuition fees of the returning students as been speculated by students.

This was disclosed by the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Sonnie Adagbonyin, while briefing journalists on the recent protest by students at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ,  Secretariat today in Benin City.

"I want to state here catigorically  that onehalf of the management  and Senate of the University that there Is no Increment in tuition fees of returning students. This is contrary to the news making the rounds that AAU has increased tuition fees for returning students to about 100%, some reports even said 200% or 300%".

Adagbonyin futher said that erstwhile students Union leaders currently leading the protest alleging hike in school fees were part of the team that negotiated the "add on" fees they are now protesting against, when the then leaders threatened to shut down the University gate because of some perceived issues,
as the school fees was not even on list of the issues.

Continuing, the Acting Vice Chancellor said thereafter,  dialogue was initiated and was still ongoing between the students representatives, were most of the issues raised by the students were already been addressed when the students began the protest two days to the Edo State local government elections.

"Obviously, they had other ideas and had already decided to adopt confrontation as a strategy before pretending to be engaged in consultation".

He advised all students to always seek clarification and be well informed rather than engaged in acts that is capable of disrupting their academics activities.

He assured all law abiding students of the institution that whatever issue they may be having will adequately be addressed by the school management.
