Edo 2024 Governorship aspirant, on the platform of the Labour party, LP, Mr. Bassey Ogbemudia Osagie has expressed his dissatisfaction in the conduct of last local government election. He also described the exercise as shameful and fraudulent in nature.
This was made known recently in an interview with The Groove Watch News crew in Benin City.
He alleged that EDSIEC plan the process in a way to favour PDP, adding that as at 11pm on Friday evening the day before the local government election, election materials had not left commission's office to Edo North and Edo Central, which makes it a difficult challenge for the delivery drivers to drive at night. This led to the late arrival of election materials to the designated centres.
"What the electoral officials did in the locations was to identify Labour party strongholds and deny them of sensitive and non - sensitive materials or else create violence in order to scare off Labour Party faithfuls.
"That position, we found unacceptable. Personally, I condemned that behavior, as the PDP and the party senior hierarchy opted to make the exercise, a selection and not election.
Osagie however said, as a man who believe in the rule law and justice, and fully understand the importance of good governance, man should do the right thing and ensure the right system is put in place that can check fraudulent acts and ensure things are done correctly. This he added, "is what I will do if elected the governor of Edo State".
"Everybody would have come to a round table and make the point that electoral malpratices and wrong doings cannot be a way of life. If this is what happens all over Nigeria, we should be a shinning example in Edo State. He would ensure credible persons are appointed into EDSIEC in order to promote free, fair and credible local government election devoid of violence".
Osagie said if elected as governor of Edo State that he will ensure credible persons are appointed into the EDSIEC in order to equally have a free, fair and credible local government election devoid of violence.
