The State Vice Chairman, PDP, Edo Central, Arch. Anthony Okosun and Secretary, L. Ogedegbe, Esq. has frowned against the manner some PDP members are endorsing the present serving members of the Peoples Democratic Party at the National Assembly.
He further said that the Edo Central Senatorial Executive members were not happy with the meeting purportedly held in the residence of a serving National Assembly member which was attended by two Local Government Chairmen and Ward Executive from Esan Central and Igueben Local Government Arears
"The Senatorial Executive acknowledges the right of every Nigerian to aspire to elective positions as guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution (as amended). However, the Senatorial Executive condemned in a very strong terms the actions of the two aforementioned Local Government Party Executives in endorsing the two National Assembly members as unconstitutional, void and of no effect whatsoever".
The Senatorial Executive further states that, there is no single Article in the Constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)as amended in 2017, that empowers the two Local Government Party Executives to endorse any person or group of persons for elective positions.
Arch. Okosun therefore advised those concerned and other party members to desist from such action and ensure they are neutral at all times and avoid unconstitutional behavior. They however, reminded them that the two National Assembly members were already serving their second tenure in office.
"The Senatorial Executive wish to place on record that it will not tolerate any act from any party member or group of persons within the Senatorial District,no matter how highly placed or tends to undermine the Party constitution. Consequently, No individual no matter how highly placed in the party has the right to call any party meeting within the Senatorial District".
He said the article of their party Constitution are very clear and unambiguous, adding that, It is only the Party Chairmen at all levels that are authorized to call any party meeting in conjunction with their respective secretaries.
"On the other hand, any party meeting that involves more than one Local Government area, is a Senatorial meeting that must be called by the Senatorial Chairman in conjunction with the Senatorial Secretary. In the light of the above, members are advised to be law abiding in expressing their Democratic rights. Please note that the Senatorial Executive will not hesitate to deal heavily with any one that commit further infraction against the Constitution of our party".
