One of the Governorship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the Edo 2024 Governorship election, a scholar, Amb. Prof. Martin Ihoeghian Uhomoibhi said that the problem of governance in Nigeria is due to bad leadership.
He added that Edo in history is unique and that it is possible for the state to be a role model to other states in Nigeria, adding that he has the character, credibility and the global connection to attract international investors to Edo State.
Uhomoibhi disclosed this today while briefing journalists' on his intention to contest the forthcoming Edo Governorship election at the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State Council.
"If you have a scholar or technocrat as governor you will experience a good governance that will transform the state's economy. Governance is not rocket science. But you cannot give what you do not have. If you have someone who has a good profile you will have a better government because you made a good choice'.
He also said that a good leader do not lament, rather address the challenges as it comes, adding that he is prepared to change the narrative of governance in Edo State if elected.
"If I do not know what it takes to change Edo narrative I will not contest. Water will be part of my focus because you cannot do anything without water. There will be regular town hall Meetings with the people, including the traditional rulers where you will find out what the people need in their various communities".
Continuing, he said a leader who is trusted will get the support of the international investors to build the state's economy.
He further said that leadership is about service, knowledge and humility and not accumulation of wealth that is meant for the development of the state.
The seasoned diplomant promised to reintroduce scholarship for students of Edo indegines if elected as governor of Edo State.
