As the Edo 2024 governorship primary elections get closer with various apirants jostling for the plum job, there comes a need for Edo people to closely examine the serious ones among them irrespective of political parties in order to identify and know the one to settle for as governor come next year governorship election.
It is no longer news that many politicians are clamouring for what they now call 'Home Boy' politician to take over from Gov. Goodwin Obaseki at Osadebe Avenue.
It is also good to let the people of Edo State know that those clamouring for home boy politician to take over the leadership of the state do not in any way mean well for Edo people, especially the ordinary person in the street.
There is no doubt that the present governor of Edo State, Governor Goodwin Obaseki has done excremly well as a technocrat. He was able to achieve this feat because of his economic knowledge. Therefore, the need to continue with a technocrat in 2024 should not be negotiable, now that Nigeria is facing economic challenges which is presently causing hardship across the country. We need someone who can effectively manage the state's economy for the benefit of the generality.
From the investigation carefully carried out by The Groove Watch News crew, those politicians clamouring for 'Home Boy' politician to take over the leadership of Edo State come next year, are few while those who believe in this present government of Governor Goodwin Obaseki and looking at his giant strides in infrastuctural development which are clearly visible across the state are more. It is only wise to have another technocrat to continue with this legacy Governor Obaseki is going to leave behind.
If Governor Obaseki today decided to introduce someone that will take over from him it simply means that Edo State is going to witness more development in the years ahead because corruption would be reduced in the state.
Another weak argument from those called home boy politicians is that they do not need someone who has not been in politics for decades. If I may ask what have Edo people benefited from the Home Boy politicians who have taken politics as a profession since the advent of present Democratic dispensation? The answer is no.
Gone are those days when Agberos use to hold sway in the state collecting the revenue that is meant for the development of the state without challenge and using such resources to intimidate the people. Let us not make that mistake to return to Egypt by allowing political prostitutes to take over the affairs of the state to perpetuate corruption and out right embeslements.
As I write now, I can sincerely assure you that Edo people will be very comfortable with another technocrat who may signify interest to take over the governance of Edo State come next year. We must move away from allowing few politicians to loot our common patrimony while the majority suffer.
Do not forget that those who have been taking wrong decisions for the majority of the people in Edo State are very few. This is another apple opportunity for the majority of Edo people to take that good decision that will uplift their lives and that of their unborn children in their life time.
Edo people should not also forget that this is the period when politicians manufacture lies to suit their selfish interest and for the benefit of their extended families.
Also, there is no doubt that many of these selfish politicians in the state have not got the usual political patronage since Governor Obaseki assumed office in 2020. The reason is that it was no longer business as usual when politicicians stroll to government House to collect what belongs to the people without stress. This is the reason many of them have not been happy with the present governor.
Edo people cannot forget in hurry the looting spree that took place in the past in the state as a result of pressure from home boy politicians from government which resulted in under performance by some past governors in the state. Iets avoid those political patronage that will retard developmental progress in Edo State.
While technocrat governor is making effort to change and improve on the economic future of the state for the benefit of the people, those called home boy politicians will be busy looting the treasury for their families and friends.
The promotion of a new slogan 'Home Boy' by some greedy politicians in the state is a deliberate propaganda to hoodwick Edo people to fall into their trap to bring in individual to do their biddings.
Governor Obaseki who has proved to us that he knows what is good for Edo people which he has demonstrated with his laudable projects in the state will not in any way disapoint Edo people if he decides to recommend someone to take over from him. And I believe strongly that Edo people will gladly accept such individual and vote for him massively come next year.
