Edo Mahia Khin!, a socio cultural group has described the statement credited to one Curtis Eghosa Ugbo and Ms. Esohe Adun, who claimed to be President and Secretary of Benin Solidarity Movement, BSM, respectively as an inciting and divisive statement.
This was contained in press release by Osadolor Imadiyi, President and Secretary, Peter Edigin of Edo Mahia Khin! and made available to The Groove Watch News in Benin City.
"Edo Mahia Khin, as a responsible social and cultural alliance of selfless Edo institutions and individuals, who champions the wellbeing of all Edolites, that are of the same ancestry, must not fold its hands, to allow trouble makers to severe the umbilical cord that binds all Edo people".
In a statement by BSM titled, "Clem Agba using Phillip Ugbodaga (Edo North) to fight the Benins (Edo South), the two authors fabricated barefaced lies in order to attract to themselves undue public attention and for pecuniary gains.
"The statement also showed more deadly and misplaced insinuations by the duo, that are capable of causing the bad blood, and to set the Edo sub-tribes and the people against themselves.
Ugbo and Adun, through the statement that was used in some media, chided Prince Clem Agba, the immediate past Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, as having displaced a Benin person to replace Dr. Phillip Ugbodaga, (Agba’s own PA and boy), who they said was least qualified as a Chief Medical Director, than the said Benin person, for the National Orthopedic Hospital, located in Edo State.
"The statement insinuated that the hospital was established by the immediate past Minister of Health, “Dr. Osagie Ehanire and their Benin brother and House of Representatives member in Ovia Federal Constituency - Hon. Dennis Idahosa”, through a sponsored bill.
"We also observed that Ugbo and Ms. Adun tried very hard, but failingly to drag the good name of our revered Royal Father, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin, into their selfish gambit to hate Prince Agba, a great son of the Oba Palace and of the Edo people. Thy tried to segregate him from all Edo people, who are sons and daughters of the Great Monarch, a Father to all.
"Even though Curtis Ugbo and Ms. Adun are not medical doctors and top civil servants, they claimed to know more than the Federal Government of President Bola Tinubu, who in its wisdom and procedure, recently confirmed Dr. Ugbodaga for the position, after studying the same appointment earlier made by President Buhari.
"We are very happy with Prince Agba, for the meaningful and concrete developments he had brought to the three senatorial districts of Edo State, as well as other parts of Nigeria, within the three years and half he stayed as a junior minister. We cannot wish him bad, but pray for him for doing Edo and Nigeria proud.
"Curtis Ugbo and his Benin Solidarity Movement (BSM) cannot afford to follow the perilous pathway and show others the bad example. And their negative actions earn the Benins a bad name..
"On May, 2023 most Nigerian media were agog with the news that the Edo State chapter of Labour Party (LP), had declared the same Curtis Ugbo as a fraudulent character that must be avoided like a plague. Particularly, on April14, 2016 the Premium Times, Ugbo was reported to have been arraigned before an Oredo Magistrate Court for unlawful gun possession and publishing of same rebellious statements.
"We are using this opportunity to call on all Edo people not tow the pathway of Ugbo and others, but to do the needful to love all Edo people and eschew the things that will divide us all".
The group said Curtis Eghosa Ugbo and Ms. Esohe Adun cannot be more Benin or more Edo than all the people in Edo Mahia Khin.
"We wish to appeal to Our Father, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’ Oba, N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin and all Royal Fathers of Edo State, to be wary of trouble makers like Curtis Ugbo, stopping them from plugging Edo State into avoidable crisis".
