Hon John Yakubu, a former council chairman and governorship candidate hopeful in Edo State, has admonished Nigerians to continue to be focused on building a nation of their dreams that would be entrenched in equity, justice and fairness.
In his June 12 message, which he made available to news men in Benin City, the former council chairman said such focused attention will not only help the nation to achieve success in its democratic journey, it will also help in withstanding any societal challenge that might arise.
Yakubu said, "the present democratic dispensation we are enjoying today was as a result of the immense sacrifice made by MKO Abiola, the winner of the June 12 1993 election. So we need resilience and steadfastness like MKO Abiola and others who stood against tyranny, those whose blood were used to water the tree of our democracy."
The former council boss added that, "democracy is a process that requires the participation of citizens of the nation as to enhance good governance, justice, equity, freedom, growth and development.
"I wish every citizen of Nigeria, particularly Edo State, happy democracy day celebration today."
