I was compelled to put up this write up seeing different people of Esan extraction being promoted in different platforms suggesting that they want to contest for the Edo 2024 governorship election.
There is no need to ask here whether those people presently being promoted or canvassed for are actually interested in the race or not; because, if they were not interested they ought to have since distance themselves from such promotion either through press releases or quietly call the promoters to order. Therefore, let us conclude here that they want to be the first citizen of Edo State come 2024.
Therefore, it becomes imperative to make it very clear on who the people of Esan nation would want as Governor to deliver to the people of Edo State if elected in 2024.
There is no doubt that everyone has a right to pursue his or her political ambition in any capacity. But Edo 2024 Governorship election will be that of the interest of Edo people which must be productive in nature. Outside this, is completely out of the Edo 2024 project.
As for those who want to contest because they are financially wealthy, or have someone to sponsor them to achieve their Governorship ambition without a genuine desire to serve Edo people, must quickly have a rethink and step down to engage themselves in other meaningful ventures that could benefit them and their immediate environment.
The people of Edo and Delta states can never forget in their life time the records Prof. Ambrose Alli set as Governor in the two states when it was Bendel State then. So, to serve as Governor of Edo State come 2024 is a serious business that is meant for serious minded persons. That you are contesting because you want to build political profile is completely out of it in this coming Governorship election.
I can assure you here that Esan nation are not ready to settle for any Governorship candidate whose performance will be below that of our illustrious son, Prof. Ambrose Alli of blessed memory whose record of performance is still counting till date. I can also assure you that Esan stakeholders are very interested in the Edo 2024 Governorship election as consultations are already on. The reason is that they want Esan to present someone who is credible, with impeachable character, humble and will be acceptable to all Edo people irrespective of political divide.
As for those who want to use the race to create pularity for themselves, should have a rethink as that is off it.
This is because making yourself popular through publicity and propaganda does not in any way guaranty that such person can deliver good governance. Prof. Alli was never a popular politician, not wealthy, but intelligent, humble, accessable and full of ideas. That was what performed the magic of his delivery to the people of Bendel State then.
Well, in order to continue to promote democracy in our country full participation of all and sundry is welcomed in politics. As a result of this, those presently showing interest to contest for the Governorship position in Edo next year should equally be encouraged. But I also want to encourage them not play the role of spoilers at the appropriate time. Therefore, we need the cooperation of all stakeholders, including politicians to succeed in this regard.
Let us not be bordered about the number of persons presently showing interest to contest for Edo 2024 Governorship election because at the appropriate time too the boys will be separated from the men. So, we too are keenly watching from afar.
