EDHA Election: Edo Central Makes U-Turn, Backs Obaseki

By Ehichioya Steve Odion

For those who know the political history of Edo Central Senatorial district will not be surprised in the manner they responded to the last House of Assembly election held on the 18th of March, 2023.

But the only thing to note here is the manner the people in the district made short the happiness of the All Progressives Congress, APC, supporters that came out jubilating during the National Assembly election when they won the senatorial seat and one House of Representatives seat, Esan North East/Esan South East Constituency.

The issue became a big news in Edo State and Nigeria for APC and others, that they have succeeded in breaking into the stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which was established by Chief Tony Anenih of blessed memory.

No doubt, that gave Adams Oshiomhole the confidence and boldness to move to Edo Central, a place that have been a strong hold for PDP for years to campaign for the APC House of Assembly candidates. Having successfully campaigned round the place, he became very excited, hoping that he will finally conquer Edo Central for APC which has been his dream since the death of Chief Tony Anenih.

Although the reason APC won the Senatorial seat and one House of Representatives seat was as a result of the crisis in PDP which led to the division in the party, and as a result the legacy group in PDP who did not want Sen. Clifford Ordia to achieve his third term ambition decide to work for APC and that made Monday Okpebho won the senatorial seat while Odianosen Okojie won the House of Representatives seat on the APC ticket.

However, the success recorded in the last Saturday's House of Assembly election in Edo Central was made possible not necessarily by politicians, but Esan stakeholders who believe so much in the Esan course  and decided to intervene for Esan people not to fall again into the APC booby trap and propaganda in the realization that Esan people have nothing to benefit from the party. They said the only way Esan people can come to limelight again politically is to fully embrace PDP and begin to strategise for future elections.

They said Esan people cannot forget in a hurry the marginalization they suffered for 8 years in Adams Oshiomhole's led government, adding that the people must come together to decide their political future. They also said that since APC came to Edo State the Esan People in the party have not been able to attract any reasonable thing to Esanland rather than propaganda which they are known for.

They advised the political class and other stakeholders in Esanland to work closely and support Governor Obaseki, as the man is prepared and ready to support Esan people to achieve their Governorship ambition in 2024.

They also challenged the Esan people in APC to wake up from their slumber by using their political influence to attract good things to their senatorial district, instead of taking order from their purported god father Adams Oshiomhole whose hatred for Esan people knows no bound.

"We have supported the other two Senatorial districts in the past irrespective of party affiliation to achieve their Governorship slot. It is wise they also support us to succeed in the Governorship election by zoning it to Edo Central. We expect all political parties in the state to do this for equity and justice".
