The Operational Head of the Edo State Waterways Vigilante Security, Mr. Godstime Ogidigba has described the relationship between Ikoro and Obazuwa communities in Edo state as cordial, despite the recent fracas between them, adding that the two communities are not at war in any way.
He disclosed this to the Groove Watch Magazine yesterday in Benin City.
He there warned trouble makers to steer clear from the communal dispute between Ikoro and Obazuwa communities in the state.
The security chief who hailed from Inikorogha community in Ovia South West, described the crisis raging between Ikoro and Obazuwa communities as mere communal dispute which would be addressed by the government of the state soon.
The vigilante boss, Ogidigba emphasised that Ijaws in Edo state were not and will never be at war with the Binis, adding that there had been brotherly affinities among the Ijaws and Binis from time immemorial.
“We now intermarried, most of our children are Bini/Ijaw in identity, so there is no need to kill ourselves. Both Ijaws and Binis are peace loving people whose history of being together dates back to centuries”.
He however said that it was unfortunate that some politically aggrieved persons in some Ijaw communities want to use this dispute to vent their anger which may cause break down of law and order in the state which he condemned in entity.
“The goverment of Governor Godwin Obaseki belongs to Ijaws becasue we laboured and sacrificed maximally for his re-election victory at the poll across the riverine communities".
He called on the security agents to do all within their powers to stop those who want to use the little fracas between Ikoro and Obazuwa communities to perpetrate crime in the state.
However, the waterways vigilante security operatives had appealed to the governor of the state, His Excellency Godwin Obaseki to constitute a dispute resolution committee to resolve the crisis ragging in the two Edo communities to avoid agents of destabilization from setting the state ablaze.
