BRINGING ESAN PEOPLE TOGETHER

The bringing together of Esan people from the various communities and social strata in a single forum, as this, speaks volumes. It is laudable and commendable.

This is especially so, because it is first of its kind in our history. Esan communities have always tended to develop and grow differently. The idea of coming together, to develop and grow, probably, was not encouraged. Little wonder, then, that we are just on the starting blocks. But, it is not late.

Esan heroes and heroines did their best for Esan people, by raising the Esan flag (may be, by purely solo efforts) high up in the sky. It is our duty to honour and immortalize their names, as much as we can.

Those of them who are still alive will be very useful in the new Esan developmental scheme, even if they are old; old people may be out run, not out reasoned.

I can see Ikolo Esan, not only as an engine room, but also, as an engine drive (with enough driving force) to move all the actions and interactions within the different social strata.

The highlighted aims and objectives are noteworthy and largely achievable, with the right atmosphere and frame of mind. It should be clear to all of us, however, that we must be involved. All of us, high and low, king or subject; resident or Diasporan must play our parts in the:

a. Provision of amenities for our people.
b. Provision of good education for our children.
c. Improving employment opportunities through skills acquisition.
d. Assisting our employable youths with finding suitable jobs.
e. Siting of small scale and medium scale industries in appropriate and suitable areas. Availability of water is a consideration here.
f. Recognition and immortalization of our heroes and heroines. Etcetera. Etcetera
