Oredo Local Government Council is set to organize football championship among Primary and Junior Secondary Schools in the ten wards of the local government.
This was disclosed by the chairman Oredo Local Government Council, Dr Tom Obaseki during a press briefing in his office in Benin City.
According to him, The football competition which is slated for 2nd of May, 2024 to 13th of July, 2024 is being organized to hunt talents in the local government area for future football championship. He called on sport lovers and others in the state to be part of the noble initiative in order to catch them young for greater roles in future .
This year's edition titled, "Oredo Games 2024: School 5 - Aside Football Competition will be held in New Era College, Uwa Primary School, Uwegie Primary School and Anglican Girls Grammar school all in Benin City.
On his part, the chairman of Edo Sport Commission, Comrade Yusuf Alli applauded the council chairman for the initiative , adding that it was a deliberate attempt to bring up talents.
He disclosed that Edo's Bendel Insurance FC have been able to market three players within some period. "You will have our support in whatever you are doing to promote sports development. You are ahead of other local governments in the state in the area of sports development. You are doing very well. As a commission we have got no option than to support you. If you need our facilities you can let us know".
