Visionary Agenda for Edo State's Development

In a recent town hall meeting held at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), UN Ambassador Princess Asha Okojie unveiled an ambitious and visionary agenda for the development of Edo State. Drawing on her extensive experience as the Vice President of the Ivorian-Nigerian Bilateral Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Ambassador Princess Asha presented a comprehensive plan that addresses critical issues and outlines a roadmap for the state's growth and progress.

Ambassador Princess Asha's agenda places healthcare reform at the forefront of her vision. She emphasized the urgent need to transition from traditional paper-based medical records to electronic records. This transition aligns with international standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO) and promises to enhance data integrity, streamline patient care, and ensure the efficient implementation of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Leveraging her role as Vice President of the Ivorian-Nigerian Bilateral Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Ambassador Princess Asha introduced an ambitious five-year plan designed to stimulate economic growth in Edo State. This comprehensive strategy includes innovative measures such as the introduction of a hospital reimbursement system, a groundbreaking approach to healthcare revenue generation. 

Additionally, the plan features the creation of job opportunities across various sectors, including healthcare, information technology (IT), and other fields. These measures underscore her commitment to job creation and the potential for significant economic impact in the state.

During the meeting, Ambassador Princess Asha emphasized the importance of leadership qualities such as emotional intelligence. She advocated for a shift from Eurocentric to Afrocentric ideology, recognizing the significance of preserving cultural identity. This cultural shift is expected to address issues like brain drain and enhance good governance in the region.

At the heart of Ambassador Princess Asha's visionary agenda is her steadfast commitment to creating a harmonious and purposeful collaboration with the traditional leadership of Edo State. Her aim is to seek valuable guidance and counsel from revered figures such as the Oba of Benin and other local leaders. This collaboration goes far beyond symbolic gestures; it is a concerted effort to build a united Edo nation grounded in the principles of self-sufficiency and self-reliance.

Ambassador Princess Asha's recognition of the pivotal roles played by traditional leaders and the harmonious coexistence of modern and traditional leadership highlights the potential for a self-sufficient and self-reliant nation to foster unity, prosperity, and the preservation of cultural heritage while propelling Edo State forward. This collaboration paves the way for the state's growth, development, and a unified sense of purpose.

To address disparities in healthcare access, Ambassador Princess Asha plans to reduce tuition for doctors completing their residency in rural areas. Additionally, she intends to increase salaries for healthcare professionals who choose to work in these underserved regions, ensuring the retention of valuable medical expertise in rural areas.

The Ambassador's commitment to infrastructure improvements and environmental responsibility underscores the importance of sustainable development. She promise there willl be continuity on Gov Obaseki’s Galegale Seaport project and making it an export free zone holds promise for boosting exports and diversifying the economy, reflecting her forward-thinking approach to infrastructure development.

Ambassador Princess Asha's dedication to providing free primary education and involving non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in community development initiatives underscores her commitment to education and transparency. She recognizes the significance of educating children, the future of Edo, and is committed to ensuring that resources are used accountably with the ultimate goal of transforming Edo into a smart city and innovation hub.

According to Ambassador Princess Asha, “ if her visionary plans are effectively implemented, such as free grants, investment bonds, and toll gate fees for heavy duty equipment trucks and trailers, then we have the potential to bring about significant positive change and contribute to road maintenance and repairs, as well economic development, and ultimately improving the quality of life for Edo's residents.” Her forward-thinking vision has garnered widespread support and offers hope for a brighter future for the state.
