Former Chairman of Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State and one of the foremost Governorship aspirant in Edo 2024, Hon. John Yakubu has described the removal of his bill boards located in Benin City by alleged government officials as reprehensable, irresponsible, disgraceful.
He made this known today in Benin City while briefing journalists at his Secretariat, Ikpoba Slope.
According to Yakubu, "The government official decided to use his temporary official Power to direct the officials of the Oredo Local Government Area to pull down the bill boards I paid for. The message in the bill board did not canvass for votes or for any political party. Also, the message have not violated any electoral law. It merely says 'Edo of Our Dream Is Possible' And that has put them in a panic mode because they know that is what Edo people are yearning for".
Yakubu further described the action as a dangerous trend that is inimical to democracy, adding that there is freedom of speech and movement in democracy. "Is an attempt to slow down our project and effort to send a message of hope and dream to the people of Edo State.
"It has become very clear that the alleged official who is also rumoured to be nursing 2024 Governorship ambition became alarm and frightened in the way we have succeeded in convincing our people that hope can still be restored in Edo State. We know election have not started, but we have commenced in our own little way by preaching a message of hope to our people
"It is clear that the officer is worried because he discovered that he has a formidable opponent come 2024. He also know that I have the experience , exposure, competence and integrity to do the job and to the satisfaction of the people. I can also mobilise massive support from the people because of verifiable records of my performance. It is this past record that I will bring to the table for them to accept us for the vanguard of change".
Yakubu therefore, called on Governor Obaseki to quickly call the official to order not to create a situation that may result to unavoidable political crisis in the state.
