Save us from Incessant Harrassement by Okhuoromi Community, Egbirhe Community begs Oba of Benin

By Ehichioya Steve Odion

The people of Egbirhe Community in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State has appealed to the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N'Oba N'Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II to rescue them from the hands of their neigbhour, Okhuoromi people over alleged destruction of their properties.

The Egbirhe Community made the call at a press conference in Benin City where they said that they could no longer sleep with their two eyes closed in their Community as a result of the alleged incessant raids in their land.

An elder of the community Sunday Owenaze, said he and his people have abided by a decision on their boundary dispute by the Oba which was made on August 11, 2017, that was decided in favour of Egbirhe Community, but alleged that one Roland Ogbebor, the former Scepter bearer (Odion-Omuada) and some Chiefs from the palace upturned the palace decision and compromised with the Okhuoromi people to wreak havoc on their Community.

Also speaking, Madam Atiti Igbinidu, alleged that she is no longer in her house because she testified against the Okhuoromi community before His Royal Majesty, adding that her building where her husband was buried has been destroyed by the people of Okhuoromi.

She therefore appealed to the Oba of Benin to call the Ohen and his allies to order in order to allow peace reign in Egbirhe Community.

On his part, the Secretary of Egbirhe Community, Comrade Nicholas Igbinidu debunked the rumour that Egbirhe Community was planning to attack Okhuoromi which he alleged was contrary to the information they got that they (Egbirhe) were going to be attacked.

All efforts made to reach the Ohen of Okhuoromi community, Ovbokhan Igbinovia was not successful as his phone was not reachable as at the time of this report.
