Fuel Hike: Gov. Obaseki To Give Palliatives To Vulnerable Households In Edo

The Edo State government has disclosed its plans to commence the payment of N20,000 monthly to the poorest of the poor as Palliatives to 314,000 households which translated to 1.5 million people in the state.

This was disclosed today in Benin City by the Commissioner of Communication and Orientation, Hon. Chris Nehikhare while briefing journalists shortly after the state exco meeting.

He said this is in fulfilment of the promise he made to the Edo State  Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, during their protest to the government house over federal government fuel hike.

He added that the state government will now go back to Its data base across the local government areas for a revalidation in order to get the appropriate records for a smooth payment to the beneficiaries in the state, adding that once that is done those households captured in the data base will start getting their N20,000 monthly beginning from next month.

He said the government will make use of the Edo resident card permit along with NiN so that those who have not been captured will be done.

"We are using our internally generated revenue which is been contributed by  Edo citizens to do this. I think this is a noble idea that should be applauded by the people. The government is doing this to support the vulnerable people in our midsts".

The Commissioner also disclosed that the state government is training about 1500 Vigilantes to boost the security situation in the state. 

"The government is taking the full biometric of this Vigilantes presently going through training so that they can do their work effectively and become part of the security arrangement in the state.

On the Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Comrade Philip Shaibu issue the commissioner said the state exco condemned  in a very strong term the position he took by taking the state government and Edo State house of Assembly to court over impeachment issue, adding that what he did is not acceptable to the exco.
