Edo AFAN Elect New Officers

All Farmers' Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Edo State Chapter held their election today in Benin City to elect  new officers to serve for the next five years.

In his remark, the chairman of the Electoral Committee, Chief Eric Idumwonyi thanked everyone that made the event possible and congratulated the newly executive officers. He said by this election they now have the mandate to work for the association.

On his part, the Secretary of the Electoral Committee Tosa Ovonramwen said the association was impressed with the success of the election and equally describe it as peaceful. 

He advised the executive to work closely with the members of the association, adding that with the support of all members that the association will work hard to solve foods security in the country.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairman, Julius Usiagu said his first assignment is to ensure he creat an electronic data base to capture all the farmers across  Edo State, adding that this will enable the association to quickly identify the farmers when necessary.
He further said that with this kind of arrangement that non farmers will not be able to hijack whatever benefits that is due to the association.

"We will engage the government for a better partnership. We will also profile all the farmers' cooperatives. We will involve all the security agencies and incorporate them into our executive, including the Fulani leader in the state, as the security of our Farmers is our alltmost  priority".

Usiagu disclosed that there is an organization in the Central Bank that is ready to insure agricultural products of the farmers in case there is any damage in the process. He said the association was also ready to crash the prices of foods in the market by competing with those unions in the market through massive production of food products.

Other officers elected were the Deputy  Chairman, Tracy Abor, Vice Chairman, Edo South, Engr. Oghogho Alexander, Edo North Vice Chairman, Matthew Agbebaku, Edo Central Vice Chairman, Pastor Simeon Akhimien, Treasurer, Akiola Oluwagbemiga while Simeon Owie will serve as Secretary.

Highlight of the event was the taking of oath of office by the newly elected officers.
